Republic
This is the 5th day in the republic calendar, A day, the people of the republic mark their Farmers day. Although the Republic has only one farmer, this is his day.
A day full of joy and celebrations.
This year festivities began with the display of the last seasons Harvest. Morning at 9am the republic’s only farmer Joel, polished all of his grains, and put the them on display by the paddy field, which is located right next to the republic square.
At 9:15 the citizens of the republic, started coming to pay their respect to their only Farmer. Joel beamed with pride and satisfaction as his people came one by one, to admire his harvest.
At 10:20 , the flute players signaled the arrival of the master of the ceremony, the President of the Republic. Mr. Obno Matawa Sese kikey. As the grand procession of the president came closer, Farmer Joel seemed a bit nervous, and shaky, buts still forced a smile as he reached for the hands of the president.
After President Matawa , inspected the polished grains of his Farmers harvest, he addressed all his citizens. In his speech he said; ‘We are gathered here to pay our respect to our Farmer, the one who provide us with our daily bread, and brings us our daily ration of rice’. With that the assembled citizens of the republic al stood up and cheered hooray hurry for our farmer, hooray for our farmer Joel...
Festivities continued, as the president of the republic and his citizens inspected the paddy field. Farmer Joel walked by Matawa’s side, answering his questions. All the citizens followed them through the fields.
Final event of the days festivities was the signing of a new contract between the President and Farmer Joel, on behalf of the citizens. The new contract which was unanimously passed in the town square by the citizens increased the annual rent of the paddy field from 400 Dreams to 2400 Dreams. (Republic currency)
After the festivities ended, I managed to have a quick word with the Farmer.’ Are you happy with the new contract? Farmer Joel looked at the polished harvest, then at his paddy field, and he answered looking at me, ‘Yes, it will motivate me to work harder, and that will yield more harvest; more harvest means more food on the peoples table of this republic. Yes I am happy for now.’
